Giclée Printing
Giclée, pronounced as zhee’clay, is a printing process using pigment based archival inks printed on archival paper. The quality of a giclée print shows an extensive range of colors and tonal gradients, upclose sharpness, and archival properties that can reach up to 100 years.
Many artists use giclee printing for fine art painting reproductions, photography prints, and illustration and digital art prints. It’s the closest an artist can get to matching their original 2-D artwork with a limitless number of copies printable.
Papers
Hahnemühle Photo Rag
Matte, smooth
308 gsm
100% cotton
Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper is the best substrate for almost all applications due to its gentle fine grain texture and bright paper white color. It’s capable of displaying bright highlights for images that need a good amount of contrast.
We recommend this paper for people who are new to giclee printing.
Hahnemühle Bamboo
Matte, smooth
290 gsm
90% Bamboo, 10% cotton
Hahnemuhle Bamboo has the same archival quality, expansive color and tonal range of Photo Rag while having a slightly warmer and easy-on-the-eye paper tone. The texture is akin to soft fine sand, visible when viewed from a distance— a trait especially useful for bigger prints.
We present this paper choice to artists looking for a more environmental-friendly substrate. Growing bamboo grass can use as little as ⅓ of the water needed to grow cotton. Hahnemuhle Bamboo paper is comprised of 90% bamboo and 10% cotton fibers, making it a far more sustainable choice.
Hahnemühle William Turner
Matte, textured
310 gsm
100% cotton
Hahnemuhle William Turner is a warm white paper that can offer a wide gamut of colors with deep blacks. It has a coarse grain texture which can be used to emulate the feel of traditional art papers, especially when making painting reproductions.
This paper is ideal for images with minimal compositions which can benefit from some added nuances.
Hahnemühle Baryta Satin
Satin, smooth
300 gsm
100% α-Cellulose
Hahnmuhle Baryta Satin paper has a more neutral white color compared to cotton based papers. Its barium sulphate coating allows this paper to give a gloss that has to be seen IRL. The sheen has a pearlescent glow at certain light conditions, and a matte skin-like quality at a different angles.
This is Hahnemuhle’s suggested alternative to analogue baryta paper. We recommend this for people who demand an even wider range of tonality and color reproduction.
